Portrait series I 2009 2008 2006-2007 installation shots
Nov. 2009- present

I take profile photos from my friends' Facebook pages, and make them into a series of portraits using linoleum cut printmaking. This series is a continuation of my exploration of our relationship to the image saturated culture we live in. Currently I have not decided on the title of this project yet, for now I am calling it a 'Portrait project'. The entire portfolio is to be shown together, and I am getting closer to finishing my chapter of this series.

2009

My work is a reaction to the prevalent use of digital photography in contemporary world, and the ways in which photographs shape our understanding of reality. I begin my process by asking others to provide me with digital photos of their belongings and the interiors of their homes. I then create highly stylized painting based on my interpretations of those photos. I incorporate disjointed views spaces influenced by Korean folk painting, in which skewed perspectives and scales are commonly used.
